PRINCE of CHRISTLER-COKE

Just Published!

Asel, you simply must come along. Robbie’s bought Spayne, and he wants us all to go and see...”

It’s a truly splendid day. With Asel’s marriage to the lovely Loreli, the two great Houses of Christler-Coke and Pepsicoma-Dodge will swallow all of America East.

Ducky-Du Pontiac Heinz has other ideas. With help from the wily scion of Disney-Dow, choppers descend on Iacola Keep in a hostile takeover that brings both families to ruin. Banished to The National Executive Rehabilitation Center (NERF) in Oklahomer, Asel learns he has to dress himself, eat bad food, and wear Polly Hester suits.

Escaping with imprisoned noble Sylvan Lee McCree of Dixie-DataDog, Asel discovers an America he never imagined in his darkest dreams...

There are enough bizarre characters in Prince of Christler-Coke to make Asel’s tour of the West hazardous at best...Phil, the mechanical bear, Al, the last of the Utes, evil Nones of Our Lady of Reluctant Desire (OLORD), a city full of robot gamblers, and Asel’s arch nemesis, the vile Jackie Cee, Lord of Califoggy State, ruler of Sekwoyah Heights.

Here's a collection of what I think are some of the best stories I wrote way back in prehistoric times, from 1960 - 1979. Frankly, I can't remember that far back, but that's what books are for.

Do I think my stories hold up well today? Hey, sure I do. All of us writing SF then reflected our concepts of the tomorrows to come--and invented some of them, as well. And, those were pretty strange and wonderful times, with people like Cordwainer Smith, Mack Reynolds, Frank Herbert, Philip K. Dick, and Fred Pohl on the covers of our SF magazines.

Hope you enjoy this collection. I enjoyed being a part of yesterday's tomorrows . . .

The Audio Tape
I've found the (terrific) audio tape I recorded around 1990. I think you'll like this, and there aren't many of them floating around. On one side I read "Class of '61," from Asimov's November 1987 issue. This one's a SF/spooky tale about a class reunion with ghosts, truly abominable aliens, and a philandering host.

On the other side is "Winter on the Belle Fourche," a fantasy/western starring mountain man Liver Eatin' Johnston, and Emily Dickinson on the loose. Here's a couple who need a counselor bad. The story first appeared in The New Frontier, (Doubleday), 1989, edited by Joe R. Lansdale. It was also chosen for Gardner Dozois' The Year's Best Science Fiction, (St. Martin's Press), and was picked as a runner-up for best short story of the year by The Western Writers of America.

Again, you'll get one of these free with an order of either of the two new specials listed above, and a framed short-short (exceedingly short) story signed by me.

Order the tape alone: $10:00
Any tape orders over one: $8.00 Free with any order for the "Specials:" The Hereafter Gang Limited Edition, or A Different Vintage.

Out On the Curb
Where Neal gets to talk about important stuff, and stuff that hardly matters at all.

Since I first began this site, I have had a lot of email from readers, and many of them have asked me to name my favorite books and writers. I appreciate all the mail I receive, and if someone goes to the trouble to write me, I return the courtesy and write them back.

I am not certain why a writer’s list is of any more merit than that of a doctor or a vinyl siding salesman. Still, I do know a vast array of writers, and I’ve learned a couple of interesting things about their reading habits.

more . . .
